Respecting our Parents
I wanted to make a short post about respecting our parents.. I have seen and heard a lot of things in the last few weeks and months about people not showing their respect to parents.. in the 10 commandments it says "Honor thy parents" and I know growing up when my sister and I ever did anything my mom or dad would point to the 10 commandment they had up on the wall that said "honor thy parent" or "thou shalt not lie" and also "Respect your Elders" , I used to roll my eyes but now that I'm 31 years old and I have grown up a lot I realized what they were trying to teach both my sister and me..
It makes me angry when I see kids (and some adults) who dont' show their parents the respect they are due.. I've seen kids (teenagers) cussing and refusing to do things for thier parents saying they have the 1st amendment rights, or that they didn't make the mess or whatever reason they came up with.. parents gave us food, clothes, and a place to sleep at night. They give us unconditional love no matter how stupid we can get they still love us.
I am not saying i'm perfect yes I did from time to time disrespect my parents but I also got punished for it and now looking back I wonder how stupid was I for doing that.. they did things that they didn't have to do for me but they did.. so in turn I should show my respect..
when I became an adult, all I ever heard was.. "find a job and stay there" or something to that effect.. They wanted us to build my life to become a responsible citizen who supported myself and not depending on myself. yes they let me stay in their house when I needed a place to live after I became an adult and especially after I was going through and after my divorce and I didn't get a day where they didn't say you need to find a job etc. Well after several months I finally did move out then I got married then got a job and ever since I'm thankful that I have parents who cared and loved me enough to push me out the door to find a job and support myself.. and yes there is times I do ask my sister or my parents for help with $$ or advice and they give it me and vice versa..
I know of someone who is a bit older than me but not much older.. who is living with their parents and has been living off of them and has not looked for a job and refuses to move out on their own.. and then has the gall to say things so mean about the parents but still acts like have the right to steal money from them and just basically "mooching" off the parents who both has not been well in health and been in the hospital several times.. and it makes me so mad that they would act like they do.. thinking that they had the right to live under their house, eat the food they buy, sleep in the bed they have, and steal money from the parents but yet can't show the thanks and respect for them letting this person in their home..
To me, if you want to be treated as an adult, to be respected as an adult.. do your part and grow up into an adult.. nobody has to treat , and respect you as an adult if you can't do that to others.. Like one of my favorite sayings "Treat others the way you want to be treated"..
Again, I am not saying i'm perfect.. I'm far from that but I do know that I am 31 years old and I do try to respect my parents everyday and sometimes it's hard when one of them makes me mad but I also remember the life they gave me growing up.. They deserve to be respected..
Now that I have that said.. Have a nice day :)
